Shamanic Bodywork
This is a non-kinesiology course that explores, demonstrates and teaches the principles of Shamanic Healing. The concepts of this course can be easily integrated with other complementary health modalities such as kinesiology, massage, counselling, etc.
SHAMANISM
Shamanism is the original and most enduring of spiritual healing practices in human culture. It has a known history of at least 40 thousand years and most likely extends from 100 thousand years ago. The core themes in shamanic practice are concerned with the use of technologies of consciousness to expand the range of domains in which human beings can operate so as to access and use resources otherwise not available. This involves the engagement of states of consciousness by the shamanic practitioner and also by the client in healing work.
‘Shamanic bodywork' is a way of describing one of the most fundamental forms of shamanic healing in which the following obtains:
- The focus in healing is upon the foundations of life itself, the soul, understood as the vital principle [anima: Greek].
- In particular, the healing is directed at ascertaining where the client is in their life journey [the journey of the soul] and the relationship between soul and the body, mind and social world.
- To implement this kind of healing, the practitioner establishes a ritual space [temenos: Greek] and enters into the worlds of the client to establish the state of the soul's journey, the state of the soul [as personal medicine; life-giving and life-sustaining principles], and the degree of integration of body, mind, soul and world. Healing is aimed at optimising integration and placing the ability to sustain that in the client's hands.
- In traditional indigenous cultures, the whole process is mapped and guided by profound mythological systems and symbols.
- Overall, then, this healing technology engages what Arnold Mindell calls the Dream Body or Shaman's Body in each person ... the extended field of life energies, intuition, wisdom, psi [non-local effects], dreams, trances and other states which extend the domain in which human beings exist and function.
